Privacy policy
Last updated: 22 October 2026
This policy explains which personal data Brainsport collects when you use www.brainsport.app, why we do so and what your rights are. We keep data collection to a minimum: you can play every puzzle without an account.
1. Who we are
This website is operated by Brainsport. For all questions about privacy you can contact us at info@brainsport.app.
2. What data we collect and why
Playing without an account
If you play without an account, we do not ask for or store any personal data. Your rating and settings are kept only in the open page while you play, and are gone when you close or reload it. The only thing we store in your browser ("local storage") is your cookie choice, so we don't have to ask again on every page.
If you create an account
You can optionally create a free account to keep your progress across devices. We then store:
- your email address;
- your password, stored only as a secure one-way hash, so we can never see it;
- per puzzle type: your rating, level, chosen language and game settings;
- the dates on which your account and settings were created and updated.
We use this data only to provide your account. We use your email address to log you in and to send you a password-reset link when you ask for one. We do not send newsletters or marketing email, and we never sell your data. The legal basis is the performance of the agreement with you (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
When you are logged in, we place a strictly necessary session cookie to keep you logged in. It is deleted when you log out or close your browser session.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we use your email address and message only to answer you, and we delete them when they are no longer needed.
Server logs
Like every website, our hosting server automatically records technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. This is needed to deliver the website and to keep it secure (legitimate interest, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). These logs are kept for a limited time only.
3. Advertising and cookies
Brainsport is free because we show advertisements. For this we use the following Google services:
- Google AdSense shows the ads on our pages. Google and its partners can use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure performance and, with your consent, show ads based on your interests.
- Google Ads (gtag.js) measures whether our own advertising campaigns lead people to the website (conversion measurement).
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings. Read more in how Google uses information from sites that use its services and in the Google Privacy Policy.
Your consent
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before advertising and measurement cookies are used. Until you accept, Google is told (via Google Consent Mode) that consent was not given, and only non-personalised ads are shown. Your choice is saved in your browser. You can change it at any time via Cookie settings, which is also linked at the bottom of every page. The legal basis for advertising cookies is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).

4. Who receives your data
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share data only with:
- our hosting provider, who stores the website and database on our behalf;
- Google, for advertising and measurement as described above. Google may process data outside the EU; it uses safeguards approved by the European Commission for this.
5. How long we keep data
Account data is kept as long as you have an account. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your email address, password hash and game settings. Password-reset links expire automatically. Your cookie choice stays in your browser until you clear your browser data.
6. Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability and to withdraw consent at any time. To use these rights, or to delete your account, email info@brainsport.app. We respond within one month.
If you believe we do not handle your data correctly, you can file a complaint with your national data protection authority. In the Netherlands this is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
7. Security
We protect your data with appropriate measures: the website uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS), passwords are stored only as a secure hash and access to the database is restricted.
8. Children
Brainsport is suitable for all ages, but accounts are not intended for children under 16. If you are under 16, please ask a parent or guardian before creating an account.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our website or the law changes. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
